Муфта (clutch) у top-load даёт корзине плавно разогнаться до оборотов отжима и связывает/разъединяет корзину и привод.
- Старые Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive: муфта с фрикционными колодками/лентой (clutch shoes/band) на коробке передач под баком; при износе отжим медленный.
- Whirlpool/Maytag VMW, Cabrio, Bravos: «splutch» (spline + clutch) — узел над шкивом снизу машины: шлицевой зацеп, который актуатор (shift actuator) переключает между стиркой и отжимом.
- GE top-load: узел муфты и тормоза (clutch / brake) снизу на коробке.
- Samsung top-load: узел муфты (clutch assembly) с мотором муфты.
У front-load муфты нет — барабан крутит мотор напрямую или через ремень.
On a top-load the clutch lets the basket ramp up to spin speed and couples/uncouples the basket and the drive.
- Old Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive: a clutch with friction shoes/band on the transmission under the tub; when worn, spin is slow.
- Whirlpool/Maytag VMW, Cabrio, Bravos: the "splutch" (spline + clutch) — the assembly above the pulley underneath: a splined coupler the shift actuator moves between wash and spin.
- GE top-load: clutch and brake assembly under the gearcase.
- Samsung top-load: a clutch assembly with a clutch motor.
Front-loads have no clutch — the motor turns the drum directly or via a belt.

- ❌ НеисправнаFaulty
Сорванные/скруглённые шлицы, треснувший корпус, стёртые или замасленные накладки — замена муфты (у VMW — комплект splutch). Если сорваны шлицы на валу привода — проверить вал/коробку тоже.
Stripped/rounded splines, cracked housing, worn or oily linings — replace the clutch (on VMW — the splutch kit). If the drive shaft splines are damaged, check the shaft/gearcase too.
Обесточить. Пустая корзина должна проворачиваться рукой, а при отжиме разгоняться за несколько секунд.
Unplug. The empty basket should turn by hand and reach speed within seconds in spin.
Исключить простое: ремень (VMW), муфта мотора (old DD), актуатор переключения (VMW) в сервисном тесте.
Rule out the simple stuff: belt (VMW), motor coupling (old DD), shift actuator (VMW) in the service test.
VMW: положить машину на перед, снять кожух, ремень и шкив (гайка 13 мм), осмотреть шлицы шестерни и корпус splutch.
VMW: lay the washer on its front, remove cover, belt and pulley (13 mm nut), inspect the gear splines and the splutch housing.
Old direct drive: снять мотор и коробку, осмотреть колодки/ленту муфты на износ и замасливание.
Old direct drive: remove motor and gearcase, inspect the clutch shoes/band for wear and oil.
🔧 ЗаменаReplacement
- Whirlpool VMW (splutch): обесточить, положить машину на перед; снять кожух шкива, ремень, гайку шкива 13 мм (удерживать шкив), шкив, шестерню корзины; повернуть корпус splutch и снять; осмотреть шлицы вала; поставить новый комплект, собрать. Прогнать калибровку.
- Old Whirlpool DD: снять корпус, мотор, насос, агитатор, гайку вала; открутить 3 болта коробки снизу, снять коробку, снять муфту/ленту, поставить новую, собрать.
- Whirlpool VMW (splutch): unplug, lay the washer on its front; remove the pulley cover, belt, 13 mm pulley nut (hold the pulley), pulley, basket drive gear; twist off the splutch housing; inspect shaft splines; fit the new kit, reassemble. Run calibration.
- Old Whirlpool DD: remove cabinet, motor, pump, agitator, shaft nut; remove the 3 gearcase bolts underneath, drop the gearcase, replace the clutch/band, reassemble.
