Use this guide to replace a worn rear drum bearing in a Frigidaire dryer that squeaks, screeches, or grinds while running. The rear of the drum rides on a ball-and-socket support, and a worn plastic socket can let the drum ball rub the bracket and create loud rear-drum noise. This guide starts after the cabinet is open and the drum is removed. Use Frigidaire Dryer Belt Replacement to open the cabinet and remove the drum before starting this repair.

ШагиSteps
1
Prepare the dryer
- Let the dryer cool completely if it was recently running.
- Wear work gloves to protect your hands from sharp sheet-metal edges.
- Use the separate disassembly guide to open the cabinet and remove the drum before continuing.
2
Identify the rear bearing parts
- Find the ball support on the back of the drum.
- Locate the plastic socket cup and metal bracket on the rear wall of the dryer.
3
Remove the drum ball
- Look inside the rear center of the drum and locate the three Phillips screws.
- Remove the three screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
- Lift the drum ball off the back of the drum.
4
Check the drum ball
- Inspect the removed drum ball.
- Test-fit the ball into the plastic socket to see where it rides.
- Look for wear on the narrow edge of the ball where it may have rubbed metal.
5
Inspect the socket for wear
- Inspect the inside and upper edge of the plastic socket cup.
- Replace the bearing assembly if the plastic edge is worn away or the ball sits low enough to touch the metal bracket.
6
Remove the socket assembly
- Move to the outside rear of the dryer.
- Locate the two 5/16 inch bolts that secure the rear socket assembly to the back plate.
- Remove the two bolts with a 5/16 inch nut driver.
- Remove the metal bracket, plastic socket, and outside retainer from the rear plate.
7
Choose the replacement assembly
- Order a complete rear drum-bearing kit instead of replacing only one worn piece.
8
Install the socket assembly
- Position the new plastic socket cup in the metal bracket at the rear support opening.
- Fit the outside retainer on the back of the rear panel so the assembly sandwiches the sheet metal.
- Reinstall the two 5/16 inch bolts with a nut driver.
9
Lubricate the bearing
- Apply the supplied grease inside the new plastic socket cup where the drum ball rides.
- Set the new drum ball on the back of the drum and align the screw holes.
- Install the three Phillips screws.
10
Reassemble and test the dryer
- Reinstall the drum by lowering the drum ball into the top of the socket cup.
- Rotate the drum by hand to confirm that the ball is seated and the drum turns without scraping.
- Reassemble the dryer by reversing the separate disassembly instructions.
- Reconnect power, reopen the gas valve if needed, and run the dryer briefly while listening for squeaks or grinding.
