The Bosch F34 error means the washer door is stuck or the washer can't release the door lock. Use this guide to safely retrieve laundry by checking the child lock, resetting the washer, draining water when needed, and using the emergency release. A door that keeps sticking may have a faulty handle, door latch, door lock, locking mechanism, or release mechanism. This guide was written with a Bosch Serie 4 model, and other Bosch or similar Siemens washers may have minor differences.

Check for water and heat

Stop and check the water level through the door glass before trying to release the door.
Hot water may be in the drum if the washer stopped mid-cycle, so let it cool before draining or opening the door.
Don't try to open the door if the water level is above the glass, as hot water can spill out and burn you.
Unplug the washer or switch it off at the power supply before draining water, opening the service flap, or using a manual release.
Keep the washer powered only while trying the control panel child lock check.

Drain excess water

Drain the washer before releasing the door if there is lots of water in the drum or the water level is above the glass.
Open the lower-right service flap on the front of the washer.
Unclip the drainage hose, aim it into a tray, and remove the hose cap.
Have extra trays ready, because one tray may not hold enough water if the drum is full.
Refit the hose cap to stop the flow when the tray fills, empty the tray, and repeat until the excess water is drained.
Refit the hose cap and clip the drainage hose back into place.

Turn off the child lock

Check whether the child lock is active if the wash program has finished but the door still won't open.
On this Bosch Serie 4 design, switching the washer off doesn't necessarily deactivate the door lock.
Hold the two child lock buttons on the control panel for three seconds.
Wait for the washer to beep and for the door latch to deactivate.
Try opening the door gently after the latch releases.

Reset the washer

Switch the washer off at the power supply and leave it off for about 15 minutes.
This may reset the washer and allow the door lock to release.
Restore power if needed and try opening the door gently.

Use the emergency door release

Make sure the washer is switched off and the water level is below the door glass before using the emergency release.
Open the lower-right service flap on the front of the washer.
Find the emergency door release just above the filter.
Use a flat-blade screwdriver to push into the release mechanism and pull the release down.
Listen for the door catch to click open, then try opening the door gently.
Close the service flap when you're done.

Identify a likely latch or handle fault

Suspect a faulty door release mechanism if the child lock check, power supply reset, and emergency release don't open the door.
Suspect a faulty handle or locking mechanism if the door keeps getting stuck after you get it open.
On Bosch Serie 4 machines with this latch design, there isn't a practical front-access way to unclick the latch.
Stop pulling hard on the handle if it won't release the latch, as forcing it can break the handle or door trim.

Try a card or string on compatible latches

Try these release tricks only on Bosch models with a latch shape that can be caught from the door seam.
Slide an old credit card into the seam near the latch and wiggle it to try to catch and release the door latch.
Work a piece of string into the groove around the door, wrap it around the door, and pull it to try to catch the release mechanism.
Stop if the door trim, glass, or rubber seal starts to bend or lift.

Use force only as a last resort

Call a washing machine technician if the standard release methods don't open the door.
As an absolute last resort, a large screwdriver can be wedged between the door and cabinet to force the door open.
This method isn't advised because it can damage the door, cabinet, gasket, or lock, and the tool can slip and injure you.
Don't force the door open while water remains in the drum.

Ventilate the washer

Remove the laundry after the door opens and check that the door opens and closes normally.
Leave the dispenser drawer slightly ajar after wash cycles.
Leave the drum door open after wash cycles to improve ventilation and reduce smells.
