This guide explains how to replace the suspension rods in a top-load Samsung washing machine (Model WA50R5200AW/US). If your washer is shaking, going off balance, or making loud noises during the spin cycle, the suspension rods may be worn out. This guide is beginner-friendly and only requires basic tools.

Step 1

Unplug the washing machine from the wall outlet.
Always unplug the washer before beginning repair to avoid electric shock.

Step 2

Verify that your washing machine is model WA50R5200AW/US.

Step 3

Locate the two screws on the left back panel of the washer.

Step 4

Locate two screws on the right back panel of the washer.

Step 5

Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the four 12 mm Phillips screws securing the rear panel.
Place the four 12 mm Phillips screws in a screw tray or small container to prevent losing them

Step 6

Remove the rear panel.
Support the rear panel with both hands while lifting it away to avoid bending the metal edges.

Step 7

Find the suspension rods inside the washer. They connect the drum to the outer frame at each corner.
There are four suspension rods, one at each corner of the drum.

Step 8

Lift the suspension rod slightly, then unhook it from the frame and drum. Repeat for all four corners.
Wear gloves if needed, as the suspension rod area may be slightly greasy or dust

Step 9

Hook the new suspension rod into the frame and drum. Repeat for all four corners.
Make sure each suspension rod is fully seated in both the frame and drum

Step 10

Reinstall the rear panel.
Align the rear panel tabs and edges properly before reinstalling the four 12 mm Phillips screws.

Step 11

Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall and tighten the four 12 mm Phillips screws.
Ensure all four 12 mm Phillips screws are fully tightened

Step 12

Plug the washer back into the power outlet.

After installing the new suspension rods, reassemble the washer by following the steps in reverse order. Plug the washer back in and run a short test cycle to make sure it is stable and no longer shaking or unbalanced.
