How to Troubleshoot a Whirlpool Stackable Dryer Not Heating

Инструкция на английском (оригинал iFixit). Непонятные термины — в разделе «Основы → Словарь».

If a Whirlpool front-load, stackable electric dryer runs but won’t heat at all, the problem is often missing 240 V power at the outlet, a failed thermal fuse, a bad heating element, or a control-board issue. This guide walks you through checking outlet voltage with a multimeter, resetting the breaker, safely opening the dryer, and testing the thermistor, thermostat, thermal fuse (thermal cutoff), and heating element. Screw locations, braces, and heater housings can vary slightly by model.

🧰 Tools

  • Multimeter
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Work Gloves
  • 1/4" Nut Driver
  • 5/16" Nut Driver

⚙️ Parts

  • Thermistor
  • Heating Element
  • thermostat
  • Thermal fuse
  • Control board
  • Dryer power cord

ШагиSteps

1

Prepare for electrical and sharp-edge hazards

2

Test outlet voltage with a multimeter

3

Reset the breaker or address cord and outlet damage

4

Remove the top panel

5

Expose the control board area

6

Remove the user interface and disconnect its harness

7

Remove the bottom front screws

8

Remove the front panel and disconnect the door switch

9

Remove the moisture sensor connector and top bracing

10

Remove the blower screws and bulkhead

11

Remove the belt from the idler pulley and motor pulley

12

Remove the drum and inspect for lint and damage

13

Locate the heating system components

14

Test the thermistor resistance

15

Test the heating element for continuity and shorts

16

Test the thermostat

17

Test the thermal fuse and correct the airflow problem

18

Replace the heating element if needed

19

Reinstall the drum and belt

20

Reinstall the bulkhead, blower screws, and bracing

21

Reinstall the front panel and user interface

22

Perform an advanced control board voltage test

If the dryer heats again after you correct the failed component and any airflow restriction, finish by cleaning lint from the vent path so the repair lasts. If the heater circuit checks good but the dryer still will not heat, move next to control-board, wiring, or power-supply diagnosis instead of swapping more parts blindly. Repair didn't go as planned?
