If your top-load Insignia washing machine won’t drain, it’s often caused by an incorrectly positioned drain hose, a blockage in the pump or hoses, or a failed drain pump. This guide walks you through safely draining the tub, checking for clogs, accessing the drain pump from the bottom, testing the pump, and replacing it if needed.

🧰 Tools

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Multimeter
  • Flashlight
  • Bucket
  • 10mm Socket (3/8in Drive)
  • Slip Joint Pliers
  • Shop Towel
  • Painter's Tape
  • Zip Ties
  • 3/8" Ratchet (Socket Wrench)

⚙️ Parts

  • Drain pump

ШагиSteps

1

Prepare for water and electrical safety

2

Check the drain hose height to prevent siphoning

3

Look for a drain pump clean out if your model has one

4

Drain the tub by siphoning through the drain hose

5

Tilt the washer to access the bottom

6

Remove the drain pump mounting screws

7

Disconnect hoses and clear obstructions

8

Access the drain pump wiring for testing

9

Test the drain pump with a multimeter

10

Inspect the pump impeller for mechanical damage

11

Install the pump and secure the wiring

12

Test the pump circuit if the problem continues

Set the washer upright, reconnect the drain hose at the proper height, turn the water back on, and plug the washer in. Run a drain or spin cycle while watching for leaks at the pump and hoses, and recheck that the wiring bundle is tied down and can’t rub on moving parts. Repair didn't go as planned?
