This guide shows how to thoroughly clean the rubber boot (aka rubber gasket, door gasket, or door seal) in your LG WM3050CW washing machine. This deep cleaning procedure involves partially detaching the boot to access its inner folds. The washer's moist environment makes the rubber boot an ideal location for mold to grow. If your washer smells musky or moldy, it's likely due to a dirty boot. The metal ring holding the rubber boot can be difficult to reinstall. You can buy this tool to make the reinstallation easier, or ask additional people to help.

Open the door

Open the front door completely.

Remove the boot ring

Use needle nose pliers to grip the spring end of the metal ring at the bottom of the rubber boot.
Pull the ring away from the chassis to separate it from the boot.

Step 3

Use your hand to completely pull the ring off the boot.
During reassembly, perform the following:
Insert one end of the ring into its groove along the boot's perimeter.
Use pliers to slowly stretch the ring around the boot's perimeter until it's completely nested in its groove.
Be sure the spring is centered at the bottom of the boot when you reinstall it.
This procedure will take significant force.

Disconnect the boot

Use your fingers to pull the boot off its lip in the front panel.

Step 5

Work your fingers around the boot's perimeter until its completely separated from the panel.

Pull the boot

Pull the rubber boot away from the chassis to expose its inner layer.

Clean the boot

While holding the boot in place, use disinfectant spray and a clean, dry rag to wipe down the inner layer of the boot.
You can also use bleach and hot water. Be sure to wear protective gloves when you work with bleach.
Depending on the age and use of your device, the amount of cleaning will vary.
